Administrators’ Sessions: Ideas Exchange
Consider proposing for the administrators’s sessions at the SoCal WCA conference!
In the spirit of this year’s conference theme “Connecting with Purpose” and the collaborative nature of the SoCal WCA community, the Southern California Writing Centers Association invites proposals for Administrators’ Sessions: Ideas Exchange at 2018 Tutor Conference.
Below are ideas and topics that you might consider as you develop your session proposal; use them to aid, not limit, your thinking:
- What is the role of a writing center in facilitating connections across campus—connections around service, scholarship, support, learning, advocacy, development, professionalization?
- How do our Centers effect positive change in our communities and world ?
- How do we prepare our writing tutors/consultants/coaches to carry out the missions of our centers? How might we expand this work?
- What are we doing in our tutoring sessions that purposefully engage our missions and the writing center philosophy? What might be some strategies for furthering this work?
- What are the challenges and our strategic plans that keep us moving forward in our writing center work?
We seek proposals for highly interactive 50-minute conference sessions (approximately 20 minutes of presentation, 30 minutes of interaction) that facilitate an exchange of ideas in writing center work and adapts knowledge to local contexts. After giving a short framing presentation on research or ideas related to the theme, presenters will engage the audience in activities or discussion to collaboratively explore the issue. The conference will close with a community hour for further sharing and conversation.
Proposal format: A 50-word abstract and a 250-word description of the session.
Proposal Submission Deadline: Friday, February 2, 2018
Notification of Acceptance: Friday, February 9, 2018
